Mi Ranchito, University City - Visited July 2019

Tomorrow is Seth's birthday which meant it was another day we could go out to lunch and celebrate. I was pleased to hear that Seth had decided to go to Mi Ranchito north of Delmar in University City since we had not been there in a while (last reviewed in early 2016) and they always served a good meal at an excellent price. 

We departed from our shiny new garage on campus and arrived there quickly by bypassing Delmar and taking Skinker up to Vernon to avoid the trolley and Delmar traffic. There is always plenty of parking in the shopping plaza where they are located, and Robert actually grabbed a spot right along the sidewalk. We showed up shortly after 11:00 am and we were seated in the usual spot for groups of eight, against the wall in the eastern room. Once we were seated they brought three baskets of fresh homemade tortilla chips and two bottles of salsa along with little bowls so we could all individually dip. I was glad to be seated near two separate baskets of chips since I ate from both, being the always hungry person in the group. Their chips are always warm and tasty and their mild salsa is flavorful but not too hot. As I perused their menu I noticed despite it being three years since we had been there, the lunch prices were still very reasonable with most of the lunches costing under $6. I decided to go with the lunch #4 (one beef, one cheese, one chicken enchilada, with lettuce, tomato, sour cream and cheese).

As we sat and chatted I continued snacking on the chips and it did not take too long for the food to arrive. My plate with my three enchiladas was quite warm and its appearance was actually not too special, but it smelled great and tasted delicious as well. It was difficult to tell which enchilada was placed where on the plate since they were buried under the lettuce and sour cream, but it did not really matter. I found the chicken one and the beef one and then assumed the remaining one was just cheese! I also ate up all the extra sauce and cheese with some more tortilla chips since nobody else seemed to be eating them anymore.

Since I ordered water to drink the whole meal only cost me $9 including the tip and I was pleasantly full since I ate so many tortilla chips. The wait staff were also very responsive and friendly. Now that we are again able to drive from campus and go out to lunch, I am ready to visit Mi Ranchito more regularly again!
