'zza Pizza and Salad - Visited May 2017

It was Stacey's birthday celebration day, so that means it was time for our departmental staff to go out for lunch. Since driving anywhere from our cars parked in the Millbrook garage was a bit of hassle, we decided to walk to the new 'ZZA Pizza and Salad on the northeast corner of Skinker and Forest Park Parkway next to Kaldi's and Bobo. It was a nice day to walk outside although I did try to persuade everyone we should cut through the Engineering buildings. I also tried to convince them to use the Metrolink entrances to cross the street but for some reason they preferred to risk their lives with the crazed drivers trying to navigate the construction.

'ZZA is on the far left corner of the building and was actually not very crowded at 11:45 am despite being just mentioned on STLToday yesterday. You place your order with the "order guy" and pay, gett your own drink and then you sit down and wait about 10 minutes for your pizza. There was one large raised table for 10 by the entrance window and that is the one we selected as we waited for our pizzas and salads. I had decided to select one of their specialties, the Pizza Meat-Zza. Other folks tried either specialties or custom pizzas and even some salads.

Pizza Meat-Zza
The pizzas arrived fresh out of the oven, which was a little awkward since it took about a few minutes between each person's order to arrive to the table. With our group of eight, it was probably about 15 minutes between when the first order and the last one arrived. Luckily we all had drinks and could just sit and complain about the university's parking and construction as we waited and looked across Skinker.

The pizzas arrived very fresh and they tasted very good. The toppings were generous and the pepperoni and spicy sausage on mine were very flavorful. The sauce has a nice tang to it, and the crust is thin but chewy with a good flavor. By the end of my pizza the chewiness became a bit tiresome since I ate the whole thing, but since many others were taking some of their pizzas home or sharing, they did not have that same problem. I noticed at the end of the meal I was last person still eating and chewing (as I often am), but it was still a good pizza, even I was slowing down eating it at the end.

Each pizza is only $9 with whatever toppings you want, and 'ZZA does seem to have a better cooking process and finished product than Doughocracy or the now closed Pie Five. Being so close to the Wash U Danforth campus (as well as all the nearby apartments in that area) I bet they will do pretty well. We welcome a good, affordable eatery so close to campus during the great Wash U Carfuffle of 2017 to 2019.
