It was again time for our birthday lunch in our department at the university and we were planning on going to the reopened Joy Luck Buffet in Brentwood. Unfortunately it was still being remodeled, so we had to decide to go somewhere else. Since it was Marcia and Rich's birthday month, they decided on Thai Country Cafe on the Delmar Loop, practically right next to the Mission Taco where we had gone before in July. I loved Thai food and I rarely get to go to Thai places so I was all for it!
I perused their menu online beforehand to try to decide what to get. They have a lot of choices! We parked in their special parking lot off of Eastgate where we had also parked for Mission Taco. It is nice to have a free lot so close by the restaurant, especially on a cold and breezy day! The place was completely empty when we showed up and we were seated near the middle at some tables pushed together for our party of 9. The interior had a lot of wood and hanging Thai knick knacks for decoration. It was a pleasant atmosphere for our group luncheon and we were promptly waited upon for our drinks and food selections.
I was seated next to Rich and Robert and I know Rich ordered the #47 Pad Green Curry Sen Chan and Robert ordered the #62 Yellow Curry with chicken and rice. I went with the #60 Green Curry with chicken and rice. We were definitely the "curry" end of the table! Everyone else ordered by numbers so it was hard to figure out what they all picked, but it all looked good and everybody enjoyed their food.
Their servings were quite generous and many people ended up getting boxes to take back leftovers (although both Robert and I did not need them!) The food came out hot and very good, the curry was thick and very flavorful with a host of flavors I could barely recognize. The chicken was lean and tender and also generously served out. They even seemed to give a larger pile of rice than most Chinese places. At $8.95 for most chicken lunches it was a pretty good deal, even with the 18% gratuity they automatically added to our group since we were large. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food which was served fairiy quickly and seemed very freshly prepared. I would definitely go back again!
