It was Margo's birthday in the department last week, and we were finally able to go out for her birthday lunch so she picked Mission Taco on the Delmar Loop. The place is on the intersection where they are finishing up the "Lofts of Washington University" in the Loop and we could watch the construction people put on the finishing touches, knowing the open house we were all invited to already is next week. I thought my daughter's dorm on the South 40 and her Greenway apartment were both palatial and luxurious looking, but these things look even more impressive. I even checked the rates for them for next semester and they are indeed pricey, $13,510 for a single efficiency and $12,566 for a 2 or 3 bedroom (per person.) That means two people are paying over $25,000 for nine months for a 2 bedroom apartment and three people are paying a total of over $37,000 over nine months. Wow!
But back to lunch! All the seats and tables at the Mission Taco Joint were these high bar stools which made it difficult for one of the members of our group. They need some lower seating! We ordered drinks and then Margo said we needed to order the Carne Asada Fries which had been recommended to her by a friend. They were a bunch of well seasoned fries with steak, cheese and guacamole. They were a very good appetizer, much more appealing than just some chips and salsa like the other table in our group ordered. I ordered the Three Little Piggies burrito which was very meaty and flavorful. I could not separate out all the flavors in that giant burrito, but I did not care! It was good and cheesy (we all ordered our burritos drowned in ancho sauce and melted cheese.) Bob and Margo ordered tacos and they were served on a large taco rack in front of them (luckily they were seated across from one another) and they both seemed to like the tacos. The shells looked crisp but not brittle and they were able to eat them without making a big mess!
Overall everyone enjoyed their meal and the only complain being it took a while to get our entrees (our table luckily was served before the other table in our group -- they must have known we had the birthday girl!) The food was all freshly prepared and very good with generous serving sizes (I was the only burrito orderer to finish my burrito!) I would definitely go back!
