Since we had two departmental birthdays in September we decided to order in for the first one (Robert) and we would go out for the second one (Bob.) And, no, they are not the same person! Robert decided we should order in from Carl's Deli on Clayton Road, and Bob had picked Joy Luck Buffet for next week, but it sounds like they are closed so Bob will have to pick somewhere else. As for the takeout , I ordered the Reuben sandwich with a side of German Potato salad, and other folks ordered an assortment of other sandwiches. The sandwiches all came piled high with meat and I actually ended up saving part of mine for the next day (a rarity for me.) The corned beef in the Reuben was warm and lean and very flavorful, although it was a bit of a mess to pick up and eat (but never a problem for me.) The sauerkraut and dressing added a good tang to the corned beef and it was overall a very good sandwich. The potato salad was not bad, but I was not exactly sure what made it "German" potato salad as opposed to plain potato salad.
Overall, everyone was quite pleased with their sandwiches from Carl's Deli and we would definitely order from there again (even though someone had to go pick it up.) If you want a generously sized sandwich with plenty of good quality meat, Carl's is definitely a place to visit.
