Sugarwitch Ice Cream Sandwiches - Botanical Heights, Visited July 2021

It was a hot Saturday afternoon in July so we wanted to get a tasty cool treat and we had heard of a new ice cream sandwich trailer that opened up so it was time for a visit! Located at the Olio patio in the Botanical Heights neighborhood, Sugarwitch has recently relocated from Columbia, Missouri, and is only open on Saturdays from noon until 6:00 pm. Each Saturday they have just a few selections from their menu available so make sure to check their Facebook page to see what is available that day.

We decided to try both the Ursula and the Zelie, so we parked on McRee and walked over and waited in line. The line was fairly long at 12:30pm (~10 people) but moved very quickly since there are only a few selections and they are a very efficient operation. I was going to purchase too Mini's of the Ursula and Zelie, but they ran out of mini Zelies so I purchased the full size version of it instead. Hey, more ice cream for me!

The Zelie was pretty good, but I will have to admit the Ursula was much better with a chewier and more flavorful brownie and a richer tasting ice cream as well. The Zelie is vegan and gluten-free, so for being both it was pretty good, but not as rich as the Ursula. Overall, though it was a fun experience and we will probably be back as I want to try the Tonks and the Elphaba when they are available. We think it is a great idea and we hope they do well in their new endeavor here in St. Louis. It's a little pricey for an ice cream sandwich, but well worth it for a special occasional treat and to support a new eatery in the area.

  1. My husband underrated these divine ice cream sandwiches. 5 stars! Better than Ted Drewes. But bring your own wet wipes and a bottle of water.

  2. We couldn't resist and we went again this Saturday as well. This time we came prepared with a cooler, wet wipes and napkins and we purchased some extra for later. I tried the Tonks and found a new favorite. We have some Elphaba ice cream and Ursula sandwiches in the freezer now too!
