Five Star Burgers, Clayton - Visited May 2021

It was a cool but still pleasant Sunday so it was time for a Sunday lunch with one of our adult children. We had already decided to visit one of our old favorites, Five Star Burgers, in Clayton to enjoy our first delicious burger there in over a year. We had ordered takeout from them once in early May 2020 but once we had brought it at home the experience was not as tantalizing as our visits at the restaurant (their food does not travel so well.)

This time we decided to eat outside and it was nice to see they have expanded their outside eating area by partitioning a number of street parking spots with traffic barricades so they had a large number of spaced out tables with umbrellas. We were quite impressed with the area which was about as large as their indoor dining area. There were some customers dining inside, but on such a nice day most of them were outside. We selected a table on their original smaller patio, but I number of groups were out on the street and seemed to be quite comfortable there.

Our server took our drinks orders and my wife was disappointed that they no longer seemed to have the blue sweetener, only the pink carcinogen and sugar. They said they usually had the yellow ones but they were currently out of them. Luckily my wife came prepared with her own sweetener. I checked out their burger of the month and was not impressed that it was some sort of chicken burger (Matchstick chick) so I ordered my usual standby, the Dad's Green Chili Cheeseburger, and my son I and split an order of fries (with extra green chile mayo for dipping.)

The burgers and fries were served fairly quickly to our table and we were poised to attack. It had definitely been a while since we had a freshly cooked Five Star burger but it was worth the wait. The meat was juicy and flavorful and practically melted in my mouth. It was quite a mess (as it usually is) but I was able to eat the whole thing without making too large of a mess. The fries were also crisp and flavorful, enhanced by dipping in either the green chile mayo or the ketchup (we had both). I always like having multiple dipping choices.

It was nice just to be back out again eating at a restaurant, and Five Star Burgers delicious burgers and accomodating outdoor dining area and helpful service made sure it was an excellent experience.
