Olympia Kebob House and Taverna - Visited June 2019

While we were visiting the zoo today, we smelled some delicious smelling grilled meat being cooked at one of the zoo eateries. We knew the food at the zoo was overpriced and rather mediocre at best, so we decided instead to visit the Olympia Kebob House on McCausland where we knew we could get some delicious grilled lamb kebobs.

So we headed down McCausland and parked in the lot across the street from Olympia and we noticed it looked larger and repaved since our last visit. There was also another lot specifically for Olympia just south of the larger lot, probably to make sure patrons for Pan D'Olive did not park there. We headed across the street and were allowed to sit where we wanted, so we picked a booth on the northern side of the building. We knew better than to sit in the front of the dining area by the windows where in the past we have been bothered by some pesky flies. Make sure you sit further back, away from the windows.

After perusing the menu we both decided to order the Lamb Shish Kebob Plate (not the larger platter) which offered a kebob with rice, some vegetables and pita bread on the side. We also ordered a side of the Tzatziki sauce to split between the two of us. The crowd in the dining area increased as we waited, but the food arrived in just 10 minutes or so.

The kebob was a generous portion of lamb just grilled enough to sear the meat. The vegetables on the side were cucumbers, a tomato wedge, some black olives and a pepperoncini pepper. Our shared serving of Tzatkiki sauce was a generously filled small bowl of it, and we barely left any of it remaining in the bowl. It was delicious for dipping the pita, the vegetables or the meat in, and we were definitely glad we paid the extra dollar and a half to have it, It is a shame you have to pay extra for it, since without the sauce the meal would not be nearly as good. The pita was also light and flavorful and I was glad I went for the Shish Kebob Plate instead of the similar Souvlaki on Pita so I could just eat it slowly with a knife and fork and enjoy every bite without making a big mess.

Overall, the food was very flavorful, the service was fine and we were glad to have a nice lunch together after our visit to the zoo and art museum in Forest Park.
