Three Kings Public House - Visited July 2016

It was finally time for another birthday lunch in our department, and Margo selected Three Kings on Delmar, someplace I had never visited since back when it was Riddle's Penultimate years ago. I rode with Bob and some others in his car and he decided to park in the lot across the street next to the Chipotle which was a bad idea. Although there were a number of parking spots we should have realized there was a problem when the lady trying to work the parking fare machine was standing there for so long. That machine only took credit cards and it must have been using a 300 baud modem to communicate since it was painfully slow. Both the lady in front of us and Bob both had "network failures" trying to authorize their transaction until they finally had one that gave them a confirmation and a receipt. Next time we should park on the street or in a different lot!

The dining space is pretty roomy and we were seated at a roomy table for 10 on an elevated floor in the middle. There were not any diners at nearby tables which made it a good table for conversation with a larger group. I was lucky enough to sit next to Margo since she was torn between getting the Korean Burger and the daily special, a Talapia wrap. So the two of us decided to get both items and split each of them. I forget what the ladies on the other end of the table ordered, but Stacey ordered the hot Big Red sandwich, Bob ordered the Talapia wrap and Robert ordered one of their gourmet burgers.

The wait for our food was not very long and all the items came out together. The Talapia wrap was already split in half which made sharing it easy and the burger was a good size patty on a sturdy bun which split easily too. I ordered mine with the sweet potato fries which were crisp and very tasty, and I only needed to dip them in a little ketchup. The Tilapia wrap was mild but still fresh and flavorful without being too fishy. The Korean burger was much more flavorful with Kimchi and its tangy glaze. I had to eat some fries after eating the burger before I could enjoy the subtle flavors of the Tilapia.

Everyone there seemed to enjoy their meals very much, although a few of my group wished they did not have to go back to work so they could order one or more of the listed beers. They definitely had an extensive list of available wines and beers. The service was also pretty attentive and they were quick with attending to us and also allowing us to leave promptly to get back to our vehicles. Overall, Three Kings was a good pick for a larger group and I know our graduate students always go there on "Prospective Weekend" to introduce new potential students to the Delmar Loop. It is definitely a worthy establishment for a lunch, dinner or just hanging out on the Loop.
