It was another Saturday lunch where I had the pick, but we had some constraints this week. We were going to pick up my son from his dorm at Saint Louis University and bring him home so he could do his laundry here (not sure why when they have 17 washing machines in his massive building.) So instead of selecting something near the SLU campus, I thought I'd pick something they do not have there on campus. I knew SLU has some cheap Topio's pizza place at the Busch Student Center - but they did not have Jet's Pizza, so I selected the roomy dine-in location in Webster Groves.
There is plenty of free "2 hour" parking spots near the building before noon on Saturday, so we found a spot close to Jet's. It was empty in there, and the menu was short which made selection easy. The two slices and a drink for $5 deal caught my eye, so I decided to get a slice of pepperoni, a slice of sausage and a fountain drink, which I almost never order. But since that was part of the deal I had some root beer to go with my pizza. My hungry son ordered a whole small pizza for $5.99, and they said he could order whatever toppings he wanted and it would be ready in about 10 minutes. He selected green peppers and onions which may have been his only vegetables consumed for the week. My wife and mother-in-law both selected the two slices and a drink deal, although they both selected cheese only slices.
The dining area was empty and even had a HDTV playing a soccer game, but we selected a table so only my son could see the screen. Who really wants to watch soccer on television anyway? We were able to enjoy our drinks as we waited for our pizzas which took very little time at all. They were fresh from the oven and perfectly, sinfully delicious. My son could only eat 5 of his 6 slices, so I helped him finish off the last green peppers and mushrooms piece. It was not quite as large as the two regular slices I had but just the right size to completely stuff me.
My wife checked out the restroom there and reported it was clean and functional with nothing much extra to mention. The overall service and maintenance of the building was very good. Overall it was a very satisfying, quick and economical lunch of some consistently good chain pizza. I bet my son wishes there was a Jet's Pizza on the SLU campus!
