Camille's Sidewalk Cafe - Visited January 2015

When I came home from work yesterday, I realized my wife was not home and was still out getting new tires on one of our cars, so I realized dinner would be a little late. My teenage son was already campaigning for pizza delivery, but I knew that would take awhile and thought it would be easier to just go out somewhere nearby and inexpensive. After a few ideas were thrown around (Subway, Steak'n'Shake, San Sai) the three of us were able to come to an agreement on Camille's Sidewalk Cafe on Strassner over by Hanley.

We drove over and parked in the large attached lot behind them where there is always ample parking, although we did have to park on the second level this time. We had been talking about the Hanley Station condos located right there recently, and it was interesting to see how active that area actually was in the early evening. It definitely has a different feeling at night than in does when we go there for a Saturday lunch when it is pretty dead.

The dining area had a few tables occupied when we arrived before 6:00 pm and more people arrived while we ordered, sat down, waited for our food and dined. My wife and son both ordered the Camille's club, and I ordered the Mexican Daredevil grilled wrap. The two fellows who work there are always very friendly and provide quick and polite service. They definitely keep the place up pretty nicely, but my wife did have a few comments. She had ordered tea and when she looked at the two tea choices neither of them were just plain tea, both were unusual flavored teas, neither of which she cared for. They also only had normal sugar and pink saccharine sweeteners, no aspartame (blue) nor sucralose (yellow) options. She also received a faulty, ripped cup at first, but she asked the guy up front for a replacement and he kindly and promptly replaced it.

The sandwiches themselves were very good as usual. The dressing they use on their club sandwich is really good and flavorful and gives it a great zip. I was given the last portion of my wife's sandwich and I must say it was really good. My Mexican grilled wrap was also very good, but I would not have labelled it "Daredevil". The black beans, onions, pepper jack cheese and sauce blended very well together to make a very flavorful wrap, but it was not spicy hot at all. But I still enjoyed it quite a bit, as well as the multicolored tortilla  chips and salsa they serve with them.

My son went and visited the rest room there and he noticed the trash can lid there did not operate properly, and my wife mentioned she had noticed that same thing when she had used it a week or so ago. My son did notice a YouTube channel written on the wall there, Spirit Science, so he took a picture of it to visit it later. It is amazing what you can learn in random restaurant restrooms!

It was overall a pleasant little evening excursion, and a quick and inexpensive family dinner at a local establishment. Driving back home I noticed the Bonefish Grill seemed to have a decent crowd, but the other two people in the car quickly notified me we would not be returning there! They would both rather go to Camille's than the Bonefish Grill and I would have to agree. Of course, if the Bonefish does not make it too long and gets replaced with a different restaurant at that same location, that sounds even better! That would be another new restaurant to visit!
