Katie's Pizza and Pasta - Rock Hill

Today was my first lunch pick since my birthday so I had to pick somewhere we had not been before, and since "A Pizza Story" was not quite open in Maplewood, I picked the next best thing, Katie's Pizza and Pasta Osteria on Manchester in Rock Hill. They are located in the same plaza as Starbuck's, Wendy's, Bandana's, Altai Mongolian Grill and Baskin-Robbins, so there are now quite a few places to eat there. Then once you need to burn off the calories you can go to the Club Fitness, and if you are feeling ill you can go to the Urgent Care facility right there too!

As for Katie's, we showed up for lunch a little before noon and we were immediately seated by the window at a large round table overlooking Manchester Road. We noticed all the chairs were different and we were seated by a large collection of firewood with. sailfish mounted over it. There were also very unusual light coverings made of something we could not determine. They are definitely going for an unusual aesthetic which is unexpected at a Rock Hill strip mall dominated by chains. As we perused their menu we noticed several brunch items, but we decided to stick with their pizzas. We ended up ordering three cheese Quattro Formaggio pizzas, one Margherita pizza and one smoked salmon pizza. While we waited they brought us two large globs of homemade bread with cheese on them served with olive oil. The bread was very fresh and flavorful with a nice, crunchy crust.

Our pizzas arrived reasonably quickly, fresh from the oven and piping hot. I was able to try all three and they were all very good. All the arugula fell off the salmon one when you tried to eat it, but that was okay since we are not big fans of arugula. I thought the salmon one was the most flavorful one, but I was glad that it was not the only pizza I was eating. The Formaggio and Margherita were good complements to the salmon one and they all made a good meal together.

We had heard the prices there were somewhat high and our total bill ended up being over $100 including the tip. However, we did end up taking home about two whole pizzas as leftovers. So since we were really getting two meals for the price, that made their higher prices more reasonable. The music there was an unusual mix, and the interior was generally loud, but otherwise the ambience was pleasant and something different, a nice change of pace in that area. The restrooms were also fine (reported third person) and we overall liked the experience there. We may not go there all the time, but if you want a different, more unusual gourmet pizza place, Katie's Pizza and Pasta Osteria is a good choice.
