La Pizza - University City - Visited December 2012

Our church youth group just finished a service outing at Kingdom House, and the Youth Director wanted to try somewhere different and he had heard of "La Pizza" on Delmar being good. Now our family is a believer in the wonders of La Pizza, but we were worried about our youth group (which was luckily not too large for this particular outing) being able to fit into their tiny seating area. Our motto about La Pizza is always, "great pizza in a tiny hole in the wall store front". But our Youth Director thought it would be more fun than just another visit to Culpepper's or T.G.I. Fridays, so off we drove to University City!

Luckily when we arrived there were no other seated patrons so we were in luck. They pushed two tables together for us and since we were luckily only nine total people that day we all fit no problem. If there had been 12 or 15 or more it may have been a different story. So we all selected a drink from their drink refrigerator, some of us ordered salads, and we ordered some cheesy bread and two large pizzas, one bacon and one pepperoni. As usual, the small staff there treats you like family and it is always such a friendly, pleasant place to visit. The salads were fine as usual, and the cheese bread was indeed quite cheesy, hot and delicious. It came with a marinara sauce which added a nice little bit of flavor to the buttery, cheesiness of the bread. How can you go wrong with that combination?

Soon afterwards the pizzas were done and they spent all of 30 seconds from being in the oven to resting on the pizza servers on our table. Many in our group were amazed that a "large" pizza can actually still be large in some establishments! Most everyone just had one slice, but the one hungry high schooler (who does not believe in eating crusts) decided he should eat three (the pig!) Being so fresh out of the oven, and plus watching it being tossed before our eyes, minutes before being pushed into the oven, made it seem a much more personal pizza eating experience than eating at a bigger place where you don't experience everything so up close and personal. And as always the pizza was perfection, with the crisp and delicious crust, and just the right amount of sauce, cheese and toppings. I think everyone there was sold on La Pizza, and our Youth Director was definitely glad he decided to go there. Once again La Pizza is the place to have New York style pizza in St. Louis, and it remains our favorite pizza place.
