San Sai Maplewood - Visited One Friday Evening in October 2012

Normally we always go out to eat on Saturday for lunch, but on Friday evening we needed to go out to eat and wanted to go somewhere good but quick in the mid- county area, but we wanted to stay away from the Delmar Loop and other places near Washington University's Danforth campus since we knew it was Parent's Weekend. (We were in fact attending the Voices and Sounds of Wash U : A Capella, Choir and Music concert which is why we wanted to be quick.) So we decided to go a little bit away from campus and visit one of our favorite "quickie" places to eat, the San Sai in the Maplewood Commons. My picky son, however, was not too excited about San Sai, but I reminded him that Planet Sub was right next door to it, so he decided to get a sandwich there and then join the rest of us at San Sai. I selected the California Roll and Chicken combination platter with the Sumi salad and Linguini salad, and the others picked other combination platters, but nobody picked exactly the same thing. Some picked Tempura and California Roll, another picked just Tempura and another picked California Roll and Steak. That is one of the nice things about San Sai, there are so many different combinations! And for the really picky there is even Planet Sub next door (my son selected the Chicken Club which he thoroughly enjoyed but thought was too small by itself and he did not like the bread.)

As usual the tempura, California rolls, teriyaki steak and chicken were pretty tasty, but we noticed both the sumi salad and the linguini salads were a bit dry that evening and needed more dressing to them. Nevertheless it was still a good, quick and inexpensive meal, and we were able to leave in time to get to the concert back on the Loop in plenty of time. San Sai Japanese Grill continues to be a family favorite quick meal restaurant, and with Planet Sub next door everyone can be happy!
