Bandana's BBQ Rock Hill - Visited July 2012

It was a scorchingly hot July 4th, 2012 and we had just finished visiting the Missouri Botanical Gardens and it was time for lunch. We decided we needed to take ourselves someplace quick, cool and convenient, where our hot, sweaty selves could enjoy a good meal. Since it was Independence Day, what could be more patriotic then good old American Barbecue at a popular St. Louis barbecue place, Bandana's! We picked to visit the location closest to our home, the one on the corner of McKnight and Manchester in Rock Hill.

As usual when we got there for lunch the place was relatively empty... which we like! This is a newer, large and open location, and although its "strip mall" location may not have as much charm as some of the other Bandana's, we have always had good food and service there. We were seated at the round table far from the windows which was fine for us since we were a sweaty mess. They gave us the usual small menu, but we knew what we wanted and ordered. As usual I picked the lunch "pork plate" which means a pile of smoked pork, two large buttery slices of toast and two sides (fries and cole slaw for me.) Whereas others in my group prefer the St. Louis "Sweet and Smoky" sauce, when I am at the restaurant I like to sample all of them, mix various combinations together, and eat it on my pork, my fries and even my toast. Is this a fine gourmet sampling of exquisite delicacies? Heck no! This is a sauce fest, and I always thoroughly enjoy myself. The meat there is consistently well smoked and has plenty of flavor to it. You leave the building smelling like well smoked meat, which is a lot better than what we smelled like when we first got there!
