I had been hearing a number of good things about this established neighborhood bar & grill in Maplewood near the city limits, so I decided it was time to visit the Piccadilly at Manhattan. Manhattan Avenue where it sits is a one way street so we did have to take a circuitous path around the neighborhood to locate a good street spot where we could park. We ended up in front of a house on the next block. This place is definitely located in a residential neighborhood and had a very comfortable feel to it.
This is the actual table where we sat (courtesy of Google Streetview) which gave us a nice view of the street corner as we ate. The menu they gave us was small but seemed to cover quite a bit of variety. It was a Saturday lunch and the waitress told us the baby back ribs were available so I ordered them with onion rings on the side. The others in my group selected either the Picadilly Philly or the Ultimate Grilled Cheese sandwiches. My daughter also ordered a cup of the clam chowder which we all sampled. The clam chowder was good and tasted a little different from your average clam chowder. We think they added something with tomato sauce into it. It gave it a little more of a tang and I know I liked it. The ribs were very tender and quite flavorful. They were served with a sauce that tasted like the sweet & smoky "St. Louis" sauce at Bandana's, but slightly toned down. I thought it was quite tasty and ate them all with gusto. The others enjoyed their sandwiches and fries, and we all enjoyed the 60's music they played in the background. At about noon on a Saturday the place had a few customers but was mostly empty. My wife enjoyed her Picadilly Philly but said she still preferred the Philly sandwich at O'Charley's. My son, however, said he preferred the Picadilly sandwich. Overall, the food quality was quite good and we liked the atmosphere and service. We will see when we next go back there.
