Now that the Frontenac Grill has been open for a while it was time for a repeat visit, especially since we really liked the Chicago style pizza there. My daughter was actually up in Chicago with a friend for that weekend, and we only had to drive about 5 miles to get some good Chicago style pizza, so there! We arrived a little after 11 am and we were not sure if it was opened since there were hardly any cars there. But we walked right in and were seated at a comfortable booth while they played some classic rock tunes. My wife and I were again going to split a Chicago style pizza (sausage) and each get a salad, my son was getting a St. Louis style with pepperoni and mushrooms, and my mother-in-law surprised us by getting a St. Louis style pizza... with pineapple! The waiter was very pleasant and checked on us frequently.
They gave us bread as an appetizer, 4 slices of Italian bread, and 4 buttery little rolls. The Italian bread had rosemary in it and was okay but not too exciting. The little rolls, however, were very good. Soon after finishing the bread our salads arrived and they were a good sized serving for side salads. I had the house salad with the house Italian dressing, and my wife had the Caesar salad. The salads were well prepared and well mixed, and we both enjoyed our salads. When the pizza arrived it was again very good. We all had leftovers and we were able to make another meal out of what we brought back home. Their pizza reheats well at home, and when you consider we actually made two meals out of the visit there, it is a very good value as well.
Note: I just noticed on their web site that Monday is $5 pizza day. You buy one pizza and the second one is only $5. That sounds like yet another reason to visit!
